(We built the world and) and miss the stars

Deer Leap – Here. Home.

Deer Leap - Here. Home.

“little words mean nothing tonight. they fall to pieces in the light and crawl through spaces and bleed through the lines. rethink the meaning. is it what you mean to say?”

Deer Leap – After their incredible split ep with The World as a Beautiful Place & I am No Longer Afraid to Die and songs such as “We Are Not Who We Are” and “To Moscow And Quickly” the band from Windham, New Hampshire is back with the first full-length. And…it’s a beauty, a truly stunning 9 song emo/indie meets post-rock album. 30 minutes of feeling comfortable and kinda safe. Feeling melancholic and pensive on the one hand and happy/peaceful on the other.

They just know how to catch your heart and throw it around (in a fucking good way). So glad that they didn’t changed their sound…this dreamy, clear and moving sound.

It all starts off with a song called “Here”…and I try hard not to cry everytime I listen to this song. “Not Penny’s Boat” is an awesome instrumental part that usher in “Walls Became The World All Around”…”take time and love“. Amazing.

“its comforting to know what you think. you’re covered in blankets and sleep. its comforting to know where you’ll be.”

“Home” is the saddest song…in my opinion. Lyrically brilliant.

“everyone’s abandoned this town and everyone is fleeing this coast. all we ever do is turn our past into a ghost.”

“What Is Dead May Never Die” shows an even more post-rockish side of the band and it’s also the second to last song with lyrics. Try to handle your emotions when he sings…”it all will work out“. so intense.

“don’t burn your bridges down just to get away”

The vocals in “And Every One Of Us Better Than You” are more like a background noise and it’s sorta hard to figure out the lyrics…definition of dreamy rock music I think, damn good though.

“you drink for hours and it shows when you up and let it go. call and tell me that you’re scared and i’ll be right (there)”

And it all ends up with two great instrumental songs called “(Take Time)” and “The White Lodge”.

Perfect autumn/winter album.
