Apart – Hold your breath.
Apart is a 5-piece band from South Carolina playing a blend of emotional hardcore/screamo and post-hardcore with some post-rock edges. I know, I know…the modern screamo/post-hardcore is kinda surfeited. A lot of bands sound the same inspired by the same old bands, but who cares when they do it even better. Well…you’ll definitively hear influences like 90′s screamo, Touche Amore (Play On, Soft Pipes), Pianos and stuff.
However “Gray Light” is even so much more. An extremely intense 8-track LP that scintillated in every single phrase, every guitar line, every single throat-searing “growl”, every desperate moment and every calm instrumental part.
“Now I am january, I am cold and rainy
and all our love, is waxing and wainingWhat is love but ‘worry and waiting’? “
Lyrically…”Gray Light” as whole totally gets me. Always screaming…”Because I feel less and less.”…which feels like in knife in my throat.
And I try hard not collapse on the inside when he yells:
“And I’m told it’s because of repression
that I hate feeling stuck more than regressing
and now I can’t tell the difference
between transgression
and an honest confession
I am just another scorched earth, another parched heart. The fields I’ve claimed are all weathered and stark. Now I’m just another drunk in a choir pretending to preach, “everything means nothing to me”.”
…with his absolute ground- and heartbreaking voice. If my heart would be a punching ball, this album would be the clenched hand beating the shit out of me. Fuck.
To describe the album in its entire…choose one of these terms:
rad. rad. rad. fucking amazing.
I think they’ll have a very bright future. Wish them all the best.

Torpedo Holiday – 11 months ago a super-good new 5-piece band hailing from hamburg/germany released a song called “Haut euch selber”. It was a passionate/heartfelt and good foretaste of what’s to come. Torpedeo Holiday play a rousing blend german of emopunk/screamo/post-hardcore between resignation and desperation. Always moving and stirring. Nothing new but yet and most important with the heart in the right place (roots plus youth-centre/basement-feelings plus diy plus x).
